UTE PLEUGER
Ute Pleuger, born in Neuwied, Germany and raised in Essen, began her formal art training in Berlin in 1976. She has traveled and studied widely, including France, Italy, Israel, and the United States. Her artistic energy and prolific talent have brought her many awards and fellowships, including two grants from the Berlin Cultural Affairs Ministry, a 5-month residency at the Brandenburg State Artists’ Residence in Wiepersdorf, and a fellowship of the German Academic Exchange Agency (DAAD) to study in Paris. She was awared the prize for paper works by the Cultural Department of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and the international graphic prize, "Contemporary Linoleum Blocks". Her interest and training in the organ have enriched her artistic composition and expression. Her architectonic works, overwhelming in their huge size and mysterious suggestiveness, have been described in numerous professional journals. Her works have been represented in important exhibits in Europe and in solo exhibitions, for example, in the Werkbund-Archiv in the Martin Gropius-Building, Berlin, 1996. Her works are hanging in public buildings, museums, and corporate offices throughout Germany. Included in these pages is only a small sample of her works. Her latest series, The Suspension, now includes over three hundred pieces. She is professor of painting at the Burg Giebichenstein-Halle Hochschule fur Kunste und Design at Halle, and she maintains a studio in Berlin where she lives.
